Oakland

Natural wine, urban wineries, and deep Town soul

The East Bay pours some of the most soulful wine in America, from The Punchdown's pioneering natural-wine bar in Uptown to Broc Cellars' urban winery in West Berkeley. Leading the pack is CoCo Noir, Oakland's first Black woman-owned wine bar, anchoring downtown's Black Arts Movement district.

CoCo Noir Wine Shop & Bar

Sommelier Alicia Kidd built Oakland's first Black woman-owned wine shop and tasting bar, spotlighting BIPOC, women, and underrepresented producers who make up less than 1% of the industry. Part bottle shop, part lounge, part cultural hub, with chef pop-ups, live music, and charcuterie in the historic Black Arts Movement Business District.
