Miami

Forty floors over Brickell, and a rum bar over the Grove.

Miami from above: Sugar sits forty floors up at EAST with an open-air Asian garden and a 3am license, TULUM runs a ninety-metre infinity pool at the W, and the Beach answers with Watr at the 1 and MILA's fire dancers. Terras is the only rooftop in Little Havana and Sipsip pours Caribbean rum on the Mayfair roof in the Grove. Call ahead about cigars, none of these rooms publish a policy.

Sugar at EAST Miami

788 Brickell Plaza, Miami, FL 33131
Mon–Wed 4pm–2am, Thu–Fri 4pm–3am, Sat 12pm–3am, Sun 12pm–2am

Forty floors up with trees on the deck and the whole Brickell skyline wrapped around you. It stays busy every night of the week and runs until three on weekends, the rooftop everyone else in Miami is measured against.

Pip’s Tip 40th floor Asian garden, open till 3am Thu–Sat

Brickell

Rosa Sky Rooftop

115 SW 8th St, Miami, FL 33130
Tue–Sat 4:30pm–2am, Sun 2pm–1am, closed Mon

A pink-and-green terrace twenty-two floors above Brickell with a pool, Latin-leaning plates and a DJ once the sun drops. Sunday afternoons up here are one of the better ways to end a Miami weekend.

Pip’s Tip Pink-and-green terrace, 22 floors up

Brickell

TULUM at W Miami

485 Brickell Ave, Miami, FL 33131
Mon–Thu & Sun 7:30am–5pm, Fri–Sat 7:30am–7pm

A ninety-metre infinity pool on the fifteenth floor, which is a strange and wonderful thing to swim in with Biscayne Bay on one side and the Brickell towers on the other. Daytime rooftop rather than a night one.

Pip’s Tip 90-metre infinity pool

Downtown

Giselle Miami

15 NE 11th St, Miami, FL 33132
Wed–Sun from 6pm

A supper club with a retractable roof that opens over the room at exactly the right moment in the night. The dress code is real and enforced at the door, jacket-optional, sneakers-not.

Pip’s Tip Retractable roof, dress code enforced

Downtown

Area 31 at Kimpton EPIC

270 Biscayne Boulevard Way, Miami, FL 33131
Evenings · check site for hours

Sixteen floors above the mouth of the Miami River, with sustainable seafood and a terrace that catches the breeze coming off the bay. The most grown-up rooftop downtown.

Pip’s Tip River mouth and bay views, 16 floors up

Wynwood

ASTRA

2121 NW 2nd Ave, Miami, FL 33127
Evenings · check site for hours

A multi-level rooftop above Wynwood with the murals below and the downtown skyline on the horizon. Big, loud, good on a Saturday, and easy to fold into a night that starts in the galleries.

Pip’s Tip Three levels above Wynwood

Wynwood

Higher Ground at Arlo Wynwood

2217 NW Miami Ct, Miami, FL 33127
Evenings · check site for hours

The pool deck on top of Wynwood's first hotel, with skyline views on two sides and a monthly afrobeats party that pulls a genuinely mixed Miami crowd. Best rooftop in the neighborhood for actually hearing each other.

Pip’s Tip Pool deck with monthly afrobeats nights

Design District

The Roof at The Moore

176 NE 41st St, Miami, FL 33137
Evenings · check site for hours

On top of the restored Moore building, looking out over the Design District's low roofline toward the bay. Quieter than the Wynwood rooftops, and a good landing spot after dinner on 40th.

Pip’s Tip Above the Design District

Edgewater

The Rooftop by Klaw

1737 N Bayshore Dr, Miami, FL 33132
Evenings · check site for hours

Perched over Biscayne Bay in Edgewater with king crab, a serious raw bar and one of the few unobstructed water-level sunsets on the mainland. Book it for the light, stay for the shellfish.

Pip’s Tip Bayfront, seafood and king crab

South Beach

Watr at the 1 Rooftop

2341 Collins Ave, Miami Beach, FL 33139
Evenings · check site for hours

Eighteen floors up at 1 Hotel with the Atlantic filling the entire east side and a Japanese-Peruvian menu that holds up on its own. The best straight ocean view of any rooftop on the Beach.

Pip’s Tip 18 floors above the sand

South Beach

MILA

1636 Meridian Ave, Miami Beach, FL 33139
Evenings · check site for hours

An open-air rooftop on Lincoln Road doing Mediterranean-Japanese cooking, with the lights dropping and fire dancers appearing sometime after eleven. Theatrical in a way that works better than it should.

Pip’s Tip Mediterrasian rooftop, fire dancers late

South Beach

Serena Rooftop at Moxy

915 Washington Ave, Miami Beach, FL 33139
Evenings · check site for hours

A pool, a Mexican kitchen and a DJ above Washington Avenue, in a hotel built for exactly this. Day-drinking turns into night-drinking here without anybody having to make a decision.

Pip’s Tip Rooftop pool, Mexican kitchen

South Beach

The Roof at Esmé

1438 Washington Ave, Miami Beach, FL 33139
Evenings · check site for hours

A small rooftop over Española Way, largely for hotel guests, which is precisely why it's calm at seven on a Saturday. Come up before dinner, then walk downstairs into the block.

Pip’s Tip Small, above Española Way

South Beach

HIGHBAR at Dream South Beach

1111 Collins Ave, Miami Beach, FL 33139
Evenings · check site for hours

A fourth-floor pool bar in the middle of Collins Avenue, low enough to still feel like the street, high enough to escape it. Reliable sunset spot with a walk-up crowd.

Pip’s Tip Fourth-floor pool deck on Collins

Mid-Beach

La Côte at Fontainebleau

4441 Collins Ave, Miami Beach, FL 33140
Daily 11am–6pm

The Fontainebleau's open-air, beach-level terrace, rosé, ceviche and the ocean twenty feet away. It closes at six, which makes it the afternoon half of a Mid-Beach day rather than the night.

Pip’s Tip Beachfront, daytime only

Coconut Grove

Sipsip Calypso Rum Bar

3000 Florida Ave, Miami, FL 33133
Evenings · check site for hours

A calypso rum bar on the sixth floor of the Mayfair, surrounded by Coconut Grove's tree canopy instead of a skyline. Jerk-spiced plates, long rum list, and the best-smelling rooftop in the city.

Pip’s Tip Caribbean rum bar on the Mayfair roof

Coconut Grove

Level 6 Rooftop

3480 Main Hwy, Miami, FL 33133
Evenings · check site for hours

Six floors above Main Highway with views out over the Grove toward the water. Neighborhood-scaled and unhurried, the anti-Brickell rooftop.

Pip’s Tip Above Main Highway in the Grove

Coral Gables

Cebada Rooftop

124 Giralda Ave, Coral Gables, FL 33134
Evenings · check site for hours

A rooftop above Giralda Avenue's restaurant row, looking down on one of the few real pedestrian streets in Miami-Dade. Gables-appropriate: civilized, well-dressed, no velvet rope.

Pip’s Tip On the Giralda restaurant row

Little Havana

Terras Miami Rooftop

528 SW 9th Ave, Miami, FL 33130
Wed–Sun from 4pm, closed Mon–Tue

Little Havana's only real rooftop, on top of the Life House with the downtown towers to the east and Calle Ocho below. Start here at four, be on Eighth Street by seven.

Pip’s Tip The only rooftop in Little Havana

Little River

The Rooftop at The Citadel

8300 NE 2nd Ave, Miami, FL 33138
Wed–Sun 4pm–close

Above the food hall that anchors Little River, with a pool, a long bar and a crowd that skews local rather than visiting. Eat downstairs, drink upstairs, and you've done the neighborhood properly.

Pip’s Tip Above the Citadel food hall
