Miami's only beach open to Black residents under segregation, reopened as a public park in 2008. A mile of sand, mangrove and palm shoreline, plus a restored carousel and a small train still running the grounds.

Built in 1890 by a Bahamian woman who worked at the Peacock Inn and bought her lot for fifty dollars. It is the oldest surviving home on Charles Avenue, the spine of the Grove's Bahamian settlement.

The Everglades at its most legible: a fifteen-mile paved loop you can bike or ride by tram, alligators sunning in the canal beside you, and a 65-foot tower with twenty miles of sawgrass in view.

Eighty-three acres of palms, cycads, rainforest and coastal hammock started in 1938 by plant explorer David Fairchild. A tram loops the grounds hourly if the Miami heat wins the argument.

Over 28 years Edward Leedskalnin carved 1,100 tons of oolite by himself into gates, thrones and a working sundial, reportedly for a fiancée who left him. Nobody has fully explained how he moved the stone.
